Washington : United States airlines cancelled over 2,000 flights, as a powerful winter storm that disrupted airports across the Northeast was expected to ease by evening, with strong winds expected to continue into the early hours. Data from FlightAware showed that more than 2,000 flights were cancelled and 600 delayed in the eastern United States. Nearly 6,000 flights were cancelled on Monday, along with about 4,000 delays. The National Weather Service said the storm was expected to move away from the country on Tuesday, though strong winds could continue through the morning hours.

Vienna : At least five people have been killed in a string of avalanches in western Austria, authorities said Saturday. The government office of the Tyrol region said intense snowfall over the last week led to accumulations of up to 1.5 meters (5 feet). Berlin :Alexander Dobrindt, German Interior Minister, plans to speed up the integration of asylum seekers into the labour market with a new “immediate work plan”, according to DPA.
