Manama : The Supreme Council for Environment (SCE) has announced that a ban on fishing kingfish (Chan’ad) using nets in the territorial waters of the Kingdom of Bahrain will take effect from August 15 until October 15, 2026. Fishing using lines will remain permitted during the two-month period, as part of ongoing efforts to conserve marine resources and ensure the sustainability of the marine environment.
The SCE affirmed that the ban on catching kingfish using nets reflects Bahrain’s commitment to protecting marine stocks and ensuring their sustainability in its territorial waters, as well as safeguarding the species during their spawning and reproduction period. This, in turn, contributes to maintaining their availability in local markets during the fishing season.
The SCE also stressed the importance of fishermen complying with the ban, noting that any illegal fishing of kingfish during this period will subject violators to legal action.
The SCE explained that fishermen who find kingfish or other affected marine species caught in their fishing gear during the ban period must immediately return them to the sea, taking the necessary care to ensure their safe release.
