Geneva : Yousif bin Abdulhussain Khalaf, Labour Minister and Minister of Legal Affairs, chaired the 46th GCC Labour Ministers’ coordination meeting in Geneva, as part of Bahrain’s presidency of the current session of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). Held on the sidelines of the 114th session of the International Labour Conference, the meeting focused on advancing labour cooperation among GCC member states and aligning positions on key issues under discussion at the conference.

Colombo : Twelve people died and eight others were injured in a fire at an unlicensed elderly care home in western Sri Lanka. Police spokesperson Frederick Wootler said the fire broke out late Wednesday at the facility in Anguruwatota. Rescue teams evacuated 51 residents, while police and military personnel assisted survivors and transported them to safe locations. Authorities arrested the home’s manager on suspicion of negligence, and investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire. Manama : Foundation works to build 69 new housing units commenced in Salman City. The project covers a total area of 13,891 square metres, with housing units ranging in size from 174 to 261 square metres and averaging 200 square metres each. Unit prices are aligned with the requirements of the ministry’s financing programmes in cooperation with participating banks. Manama : The Ministry of Interior announced the arrest of 15 field operatives in the case involving agents in Bahrain linked to proxies of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) that are based in Iran.
