Kuala Lumpur : Rui Marques, FIA Formula One Race Director, attended a meeting of the heads of the Bahrain Motor Federation (BMF) organising teams in Kuala Lumpur.
Tim Malyon, Sporting Director of FIA, also attended the meeting.
Marques commended the preparations undertaken by the BMF for the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix, set to take place at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia from October 2 to 4, in coordination and cooperation with the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC), the Home of Motorsport in the Middle East.
The Race Director said the Bahrainis have the experience required to organise the race despite the challenges involved. He noted that it will be the first time a race belonging to one country is held in another country and affirmed the confidence of FIA officials in Bahrain’s capabilities and experience in organising international races, as well as its readiness to deal with various circumstances.
He said the race represents a new and unique experience, with such an arrangement taking place for the first time in Formula 1 history.
BMF team officials held a coordination meeting after spending the morning at the Sepang International Circuit reviewing the on-site preparations. The Bahraini marshals were assigned to their respective positions and duties, with intensive preparations set to continue. Operational exercises will also be held for the marshal teams to ensure the required level of readiness.
The officials noted expectations of an exciting race based on the results achieved so far and the level of competition among drivers and teams, as well as the large turnout expected as Sepang hosts its first Formula 1 race since 2017.
The team heads reviewed their final requirements ahead of the event and affirmed the full readiness of their teams.
As part of efforts to ensure the highest levels of security and safety preparedness, a precautionary evacuation exercise was conducted at the Bahraini delegation’s accommodation. Ayoub Al Salman, Chief Emergency Coordinator, said the evacuation exercise was successfully completed in the presence of Malaysian civil defence officials.
The BMF team includes Rakan Janahi, 14, and Yousif Ahmed, 15, considered as the world’s youngest F1 marshals. They expressed pride in joining Bahrain’s delegation and contributing to the organisation of the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix, describing the experience as an opportunity to learn from Bahrain’s experienced marshals.
Rakan Janahi and Yousif Ahmed said the opportunity would be an important step in developing their experience in Formula 1 race organisation. They encouraged Bahraini youth to pursue similar opportunities that broaden their horizons while representing Bahrain internationally. They thanked the BMF for giving them the opportunity and the Ministry of Education, led by Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma, for facilitating their participation.
