Manama : The Indian Club’s much-awaited “ONAM FIESTA – AAVANI 2026” has begun in a
vibrant and traditional spirit, bringing together members, families, friends and distinguished guests in celebration of Kerala’s rich cultural heritage.
The celebrations commenced yesterday with a colourful Talapoli procession accompanied by Chendamelam, setting the festive mood at The Indian Club. The inaugural ceremony was graced by the presence of Chief Guest H.E. Mr. Mohamed Hussain Al Janahi, Member of Parliament, Capital Governorate, and Guest of Honour Mr. K. G. Baburaj. Their distinguished presence added special significance to the opening celebrations.
The inauguration ceremony featured the traditional Kodiyettam, led by President Mr. Joseph Joy, marking the formal commencement of the Onam festivities. General Secretary Mr. Anilkumar R. delivered the welcome address. The Executive Committee members and event coordinators were also present on the stage, supporting the inauguration and the celebrations. The inaugural evening also featured an energetic Cinematic Dance Competition, adding colour and excitement to the opening day and marking the beginning of a series of festive programmes.
Today’s Celebrations The celebrations continue today, Friday, 25 September, with the Payasam
Competition at 6:00 PM, featuring around 40 enthusiastic participants showcasing the rich flavours and creativity of traditional Onam Payasam. The evening will continue with the Tug of War Competition at 7:30 PM, bringing together teams for an energetic display of strength, teamwork and sporting spirit.
The ONAM FIESTA – AAVANI 2026 will continue on 1 and 2 October with more exciting competitions, traditional cultural performances and a grand musical celebration. The festivities will culminate on 9 October with a Grand Onam Sadhya, bringing members, families and friends together to celebrate the rich culinary traditions and spirit of Onam.
