London : The United Kingdom signed an agreement with Switzerland to establish a direct railway connection between the two countries. According to a statement issued by the British government on Friday, the two countries will form a working group to address commercial, technical, and security obstacles to extending rail services from the UK through the Channel Tunnel, via France, to Switzerland. Currently, passengers travelling from London can take direct trains to European cities such as Paris, Brussels, and Amsterdam.

Beijing : A team of Chinese scientists has developed a high resolution model to simulate global ocean circulation, with a horizontal resolution of one kilometre. The global ocean circulation model “LICOMK++”, developed by the Institute of Atmospheric Physics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Laoshan Laboratory, enables direct simulation of sub mesoscale ocean processes. Manama : The Kingdom of Bahrain welcomed the Omani announcement of a ceasefire agreement in Yemen with the United States. Colombo : Six people were killed on Friday when a Sri Lanka Air Force helicopter crashed in central Sri Lanka. The Bell 212 helicopter, carrying 12 military personnel, went down near the Maduru Oya reservoir, approximately 300 kilometres east of Colombo. Air Force spokesman Group Captain Eranda Geeganage said the helicopter was conducting a training exercise as part of a military display when the crash occurred. Four members of the special forces and two air force personnel later died from their injuries.
