New York : Saudi Arabia, on behalf of the Arab Group, underscored the importance of the United Nations Charter as the foundation of the international order, stressing the need to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states and refrain from interfering in their internal affairs.
The remarks were made by Saudi Arabia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Dr. Abdulaziz Alwasil on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the signing of the United Nations Charter.
Alwasil said growing global challenges require a stronger commitment to international law and adherence to the purposes and principles of the Charter as the basis for maintaining international peace and security.
He called for the fair and consistent application of the Charter’s principles to all states to strengthen the credibility of the multilateral system and reinforce confidence in international institutions.
The ambassador also called for continued efforts to enhance the effectiveness of the United Nations and its ability to respond to current and future challenges in the interests of all member states.
He reiterated the Arab states’ commitment to the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter, emphasising that international cooperation and multilateralism remain the best path towards a more secure, just and prosperous future.
