Manama: The Olympic Day was held at Water Garden City in Seef District under the patronage of HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee.Organised by Bahrain Olympic Committee, the event was witnessed by HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, who upon his arrival, was received by HH Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, President of Bahrain Basketball Association, Minister of Youth and Sports Affairs Aymen bin Tawfeeq Almoayed, and BOC Secretary-General Mohammed Hassan Al Nisf. On this occasion, HH Shaikh Khalid underscored that holding this event comes as part of the BOC keenness to share this important sports event with the rest of the world in an effort to spread the Olympic values and principles as well as underline the importance of sports in the life of any individual in addition to encouraging the society members to adopt a healthy lifestyle.He praised the event for giving the opportunity to all the segments of the society to take part thanks to its varied programme which has contributed to increasing the movement among adults while helping youth to ignite their passion for discovery in line with this year’s Olympic Day’s theme “Move, Learn and Discover” which has been designed to help raise awareness of the importance of sports in the daily life of everyone. HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa followed all the events of the Olympic Day, having given the starting signal of the colours race which covered a distance of 2km. The event featured a huge number of participants. Meanwhile, the Olympic Day included many other activities, including an open water race for 14yr+ girls (850m) which was won by Lucy Hassett. There was also another one for under 14yr girl participants and Drew Keam emerged as the winner in this event. Meanwhile, Isa Mohammed triumphed in the single rowing race as Othman Al Salmani and William Raifil topped the podium in the doubles of the same competition. The winners were crowned by BOC chief.
