Caracas : The death toll from Wednesday’s twin earthquakes neared 1,500 people.
Foreign rescue teams poured into La Guaira, where dozens of buildings collapsed into piles of sand and rubble in the coastal state, about 40 km (25 miles) north of Caracas.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a magnitude 7.2 earthquake hit about 160 km (100 miles) west of Caracas, followed less than a minute later by a magnitude 7.5 tremor last Wednesday.
