Baku : The Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning participated in specialised sessions during the 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Azerbaijan, to review Bahrain’s housing and urban planning programmes. Ahmed Kamel Ahmed Al Sharaf, Director of Developer Affairs Relations at the ministry, presented the Government Land Development Programme (GLDP) during a session organised by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) General Secretariat. Mexico City : The European Union (EU) and Mexico are set to sign an updated trade and cooperation agreement aimed at reducing trade barriers and expanding economic and political cooperation. The agreement updates a 2000 pact and includes areas related to climate change, human rights, and international cooperation. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said the agreement goes beyond trade and reflects efforts to strengthen partnership amid global uncertainty. Manama : The General Command of the Bahrain Defence Force (BDF) announced that all its services and units are at the highest levels of readiness and full defensive preparedness. Abu Dhabi : The United Arab Emirates (UAE) welcomed a resolution adopted by the International Maritime Organisation’s (IMO) Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) during its 111th session addressing threats to maritime safety in and around the Strait of Hormuz. The resolution, proposed by the UAE and co-sponsored by several member states, expressed grave concern over Iran’s use of drones, missiles, and sea mines, and the resulting threats to safe navigation and seafarers. Mina : The General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque deployed 21 service centres to provide humanitarian, logistical, and multilingual support services for pilgrims during the 1447 AH Hajj season. The network includes two main centres and 19 sub-centres operating around the clock to support elderly pilgrims and people with disabilities, in addition to managing lost items and assisting separated families and children. The centres also provide luggage storage services, rapid communication channels, and QR code-based location services aimed at improving crowd management and facilitating access to service points.

Beijing : Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks on Wednesday with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, following Putin’s arrival in China late the previous evening on a state visit. Doha : Team Bahrain delivered a strong performance on the eighth day of the 4th Gulf Cooperation Council Games in Doha, winning gold medals in volleyball and handball against hosts Qatar, along with two silver and two bronze medals in shooting. Manama : His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, today met with Amjad Kazem Ahmed, at Riffa Palace, following the successful completion of his treatment for sickle cell disease using a bone marrow transplantation technology with Casgevy (exagamglogene autotemcel), a CRISPR gene-editing therapy. The treatment was completed in the Kingdom of Bahrain, making him both the first Bahraini and patient outside the United States of America to receive the treatment.
