Manama : As part of ongoing government efforts to improve service quality and re-engineer procedures, the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) enhanced its service for correcting the work permit status of domestic workers registered under deceased employers. The new digital service enables the correction of a domestic worker’s status by issuing a new work permit under another employer or cancelling the existing permit and facilitating the worker’s departure from the Kingdom of Bahrain. Manama : His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, today issued a circular announcing the official holiday in observance of Ashura. In accordance with the circular, all ministries, government departments, agencies, and public institutions in the Kingdom will be closed on Thursday and Friday, 25 and 26 June. Mindanao : A magnitude 6.6 earthquake struck the southern Philippine island of Mindanao, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS). The institute said the earthquake occurred at a depth of 86 kilometres and is not expected to cause significant damage or casualties. Washington : Industrial production in the United States recorded a modest increase in May, supported by improved performance in the mining sector, according to a report issued by the US Federal Reserve. The report showed that industrial output rose by 0.1% in May, compared with a revised increase of 0.9% in April. The increase was below analysts’ expectations of 0.2%. The growth was driven by a 1.3% increase in mining output during May, following a 0.2% rise in the previous month. Manama : The University of Bahrain has launched a new digital service that enables students to cancel academic transfer requests and remain in their current academic programmes through the Student Information System (SIS). The service allows students to cancel transfer requests after decisions have been issued, including transfers between colleges, between programmes within the same college, and from associate diploma or associate degree programmes to bachelor’s degree programmes.
