Kuwait : Kuwait International Airport is preparing to welcome around 30,000 fans for the 26th Gulf Cup (Khaleeji Zain), hosted by Kuwait from December 21 to January 3, with the participation of teams from Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Oman, Iraq, Yemen, and Kuwait.
Abdullah Al Rajhi, Acting Deputy Director General for Aviation Safety, Air Transport, and Civil Aviation Security at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), said that full coordination is underway with airport authorities and the Gulf Cup organising committee to ensure the smooth entry of fans arriving from GCC countries and Iraq.
Al Rajhi mentioned that the expected number of additional flights, excluding regular scheduled ones, will reach around 75, operated by nine airlines from GCC countries and Iraq.
He added that efforts have been intensified to ensure smooth operations, including increasing capacity in arrival halls and deploying special teams to guide fans, facilitate immigration and customs procedures, and provide necessary support.
Kuwait is hosting the Gulf Cup for the fifth time, following previous editions in 1974, 1990, 2003, and 2017.
The first group of the tournament includes Kuwait, Qatar, the UAE, and Oman, while the second group features Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Yemen.
