Abu Dhabi : Under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the UAE provided support through the UAE Aid Agency to strengthen efforts by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to contain the Ebola outbreak in Africa.
Sheikh Shakhbout bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State, said the UAE remains committed to providing humanitarian and health assistance to help address the impact of crises and disease outbreaks in coordination with governments, international organisations, and regional institutions.
He noted that WHO reports indicate the continued spread of the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus across borders in Africa, underscoring the need for increased international efforts to contain the outbreak.
Sheikh Shakhbout said the UAE continues to support affected communities through the provision of medical assistance, vaccines, medicines, and healthcare services in cooperation with international and local organisations.
According to WAM, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the WHO, recently warned that the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo remains out of control and highlighted challenges related to isolating and monitoring contacts of infected individuals.
