Manama : The Ministry of Labour announced that Edict (5) of 2026 regulating the midday work ban during the summer period will come into effect on Monday, June 15, and remain in force until August 31, 2026.
Under the edict, employers are prohibited from requiring workers to perform duties in open outdoor areas under direct sunlight between 12:00 noon and 4:00 P.M.
The measure forms part of ongoing efforts to maintain a safe working environment and protect workers from heat stress, sunstroke, and other summer-related health risks, while reducing occupational accidents during the period of high temperatures and humidity.
The ministry has prepared an awareness plan to coincide with the implementation of the ban, including educational workshops for occupational safety officials and supervisors in private sector establishments, as well as the distribution of guidance materials and awareness messages on preventing heat-related illnesses and the risks of exposure to direct sunlight during midday hours.
The Ministry of Labour has allocated the hotline (17873921) for reporting observations and violations during the ban period. Reports may be submitted by telephone between 7:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M. throughout the week or via WhatsApp on the same number.
Violators will be subject to the penalties, including imprisonment of up to three months, a fine ranging from BHD 500 to BHD 1,000, or either penalty. Penalties increase according to the number of workers affected by the violation and are doubled in cases of repeat offences.
