Manama : The Head of the Terrorist Crimes Prosecution stated that the High Criminal Court today heard the case against several defendants charged with joining a terrorist group established to advocate the suspension of the Constitution and laws, prevent state institutions and authorities from carrying out their duties, undermine national unity, and change the Kingdom’s constitutional system.
The defendants are accused of promoting and entrenching the ideology of the Guardianship of the Jurist, which calls for complete allegiance to Iran’s Supreme Leader and submission to Iran’s political authority, through exercising control over places of worship, Maatams, and Hussainiyas and exploiting them to spread that ideology. They are also charged with inciting against the constitutional system and calling for its overthrow, promoting and encouraging terrorist acts, riots, and acts of sabotage, supporting activities aimed at destabilising the Kingdom, and collecting and allocating funds to support the activities of the terrorist group.
The Head of the Terrorist Crimes Prosecution stated that the Public Prosecution charged 17 defendants in the case, including 15 in custody and two fugitives. The court heard the case today in the presence of lawyers representing the defendants in attendance and adjourned it until July 22 to allow the defence to review the case files. The court also authorised defence lawyers to visit their clients.
