Manama : The FIA World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC) will continue to be held at Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) until at least 2036 following a long-term extension of the circuit’s agreement with the series.
BIC has been part of the FIA WEC calendar since the championship’s inaugural season in 2012 and has hosted 14 races to date. Bahrain has also regularly hosted the final race of the season.
Initially held over six hours, the race has in recent seasons been expanded to eight hours. The 5.412-kilometre circuit features up to 54 gear changes per lap and speeds approaching 300 km/h.
In addition to the race weekend, BIC has hosted the annual Rookie Test and end-of-season prizegiving ceremony. The 2026 race weekend is scheduled to take place from November 5 to 7, while the 2027 Bapco Energies 8 Hours of Bahrain will be held from November 4 to 6.
Frédéric Lequien, Chief Executive Officer of FIA WEC, welcomed the renewal of the agreement with Bahrain International Circuit and noted that the venue has been part of the championship calendar for 14 years.
Shaikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa, Chief Executive of Bahrain International Circuit, said the new agreement extends the partnership between Bahrain International Circuit and FIA WEC, which began in the championship’s inaugural season in 2012.
