Apple announced it has reached a proposed settlement in a lawsuit filed against it by developers in the United States. The agreement, which is still pending court approval, includes a few changes, the biggest one being that developers will be able to share information on how to pay for purchases outside of their iOS app or the App Store—which means they can tell customers about payment options that aren’t subject to Apple commissions. The settlement also includes more pricing tiers and a new transparency report about the app review process. The class-action lawsuit was filed against Apple in 2019 by app developers Donald…
KABUL: Two suicide bombers and gunmen attacked crowds of Afghans flocking to Kabul’s airport Thursday, transforming a scene of desperation into one of horror in the waning days of an airlift for those fleeing the Taliban takeover. At least 60 Afghans and 12 US troops were killed, Afghan and the United States officials said. Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack outside the Kabul airport, the group’s Amaq News Agency said on its Telegram channel. The IS affiliate in Afghanistan is far more radical than the Taliban who recently took control of the country in a lightning blitz and condemned the attack. The…
Bahrain : Excavations in Muharraq have revealed unique and exceptional archaeological evidence that helps understand the history of Bahrain and the region, said Professor Timothy Insoll of the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies at the University of Exeter in the UK. He was speaking remotely via video conference as…

The United States and allies urged Afghans to leave Kabul airport on Thursday, citing the threat of an attack by Islamic State (IS) militants, as Western troops hurry to evacuate as many people as possible before an Aug. 31 deadline. Pressure to complete the evacuations of tens of thousands of foreigners, and Afghans who helped Western countries during the 20-year war against the Taliban, has intensified. U.S. and allied troops have to to switch their focus in the coming hours or days to the logistics of their own withdrawal. Ms Whitmer introduced restrictions last year to prevent the spread of Covid. Many of the curbs have been lifted. The defendants, some of which are members of an antigovernmental paramilitary group in Michigan, considered storming the state Capitol in Lansing.…
India : Vilified by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s party for its high COVID-19 cases, Kerala’s apparent poor record may actually hold crucial lessons for the country in containing the outbreak as authorities brace for a possible third wave of infections. The opposition-ruled, densely populated southern state is currently reporting the most number of coronavirus cases in the country and accounts for the second-highest national tally – unflattering headline numbers that Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has seized upon as a reflection of bungled local leadership. It shows the state’s containment measures have helped to catch infections early, allowing authorities…
Germany : The race to decide on German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s successor has formed up as essentially the most suspenseful since her rise to energy 16 years in the past, signaling a doubtlessly turbulent new political period in Europe’s high economic system. With a month to go till the September 26 vote, Merkel’s conservative CDU-CSU bloc and their present junior companions in authorities, the Social Democrats, are working neck-and-neck, with the ecologist Greens shut behind. That leaves broad open the query of who will steer the EU’s most populous nation after the extensively trusted Merkel retires from politics. With the…
