Tokyo : Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) said that it suspended operations at the unit that was restarted a few hours earlier at a nuclear plant northwest of Tokyo, in order to withdraw control rods after an alarm was triggered. The company, which operates the world’s largest nuclear power plant, is currently investigating the circumstances of the incident at the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power complex in Niigata Prefecture. The Nuclear Regulation Authority said the reactor is stable and that there are no safety problems. Control rods are used to adjust nuclear fission in the reactor.
