Kabul : An Afghan Interior Ministry spokesperson reported that heavy rains in Baghlan province, northern Afghanistan, today, Friday, led to fatal floods claiming the lives of at least 50 people, predominantly women and children. The death toll is expected to increase. Hedayatullah Hamdard, the acting head of the regional authority overseeing natural disasters, stated, “The current death toll stands at fifty, as reported by Baghlan E Markazi province hospital, with the possibility of further casualties.” He attributed the tragedy to seasonal rains causing abrupt flooding.
New York : The United Nations General Assembly announced its support today, Friday, for the Palestinian effort to obtain full membership in the UN after acknowledging their eligibility to join. Cairo : Egypt welcomed the UN General Assembly (UNGA) vote adopting the Arab-proposed resolution to grant Palestine full membership in the United Nations. With 143 countries voting in favor, 9 against, and 25 abstentions, Egypt hailed the historic resolution as a recognition of the rights of people enduring over seven decades of occupation. Manama : The Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments warned against joining any unlicensed Hajj tour operators, or travelling for Hajj alone without a permit to avoid legal consequences for violating regulations and procedures. A statement by the Religious Affairs Directorate of the ministry urged those planning to perform Hajj to follow the regulations and guidelines set by both the High Committee for Hajj and Umrah Affairs and the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah in Saudi Arabia. Manama : His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of the Kingdom of Bahrain, has issued Royal Decree No. (24) of 2024 to establish the Prisoners and Detainees Rights Commission (PDRC).
