Manama : His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa issued a message on World Press Freedom Day, observed annually on May 3.
His Majesty the King extended appreciation to the press and media community, reiterating the Kingdom of Bahrain’s steadfast commitment to supporting freedom of opinion and expression and responsible press freedom. His Majesty said these principles are essential to a nation built on law and constitutional institutions, and a reflection of the Kingdom’s ongoing democratic process since the launch of its reforms. His Majesty stressed that free and responsible speech reflects the vitality of societies and their public conscience.
His Majesty the King noted that UNESCO has designated this year’s theme as “Shaping a Future of Peace”. His Majesty said the theme goes beyond media issues to the broader human pursuit of peace, harmony, and stability, adding that journalism, when grounded in accuracy, responsibility, and professionalism, becomes an effective force in building peace.
His Majesty the King said Bahrain continues to enjoy strong national cohesion that embraces different religions and beliefs, and maintains the unity of its people in both prosperity and times of difficulty. His Majesty affirmed that Bahrain remains committed to good neighbourly relations, has never sought confrontation, and continues to pursue cooperation based on established principles and values, maintaining a balanced and responsible approach in its regional and international relations.
In reference to the unprecedented and unjustified Iranian aggression against Bahrain and other Gulf and Arab countries, His Majesty the King commended the readiness and vigilance of the Bahrain Defence Force and security bodies, and the national responsibility they demonstrated in protecting the Kingdom. His Majesty also expressed appreciation for the Bahraini people for their loyalty and unity, describing them as a formidable line of defence for the nation.
His Majesty the King expressed appreciation to His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for supporting the press and media sector, and for his efforts to recognise journalists and media professionals on Bahraini Press Day, observed annually on May 7.
His Majesty the King also commended the pivotal role of Bahraini media across press, radio, and television during recent critical times, noting its professional performance in conveying accurate information to local, regional, and international audiences. His Majesty said national media serves as an important line of defence during times of crisis.
His Majesty the King highlighted the development of Bahraini journalism since the launch of the first newspaper in 1939, noting its continued advancement in professionalism, integrity, and responsibility, and its role in supporting national development, reflecting society, and promoting knowledge and awareness.
His Majesty the King concluded by stressing the importance of journalists and media professionals using their platforms to promote peace, dialogue, and understanding, and to uphold the responsibility of the word with honesty and professionalism.
