Manama : SITR Compliance Technology W.L.L. (SITR), a Bahraini regulatory technology startup, announced the launch of its operations in the Kingdom of Bahrain to develop Shariah compliance monitoring solutions for Islamic financial institutions.
The announcement was made during Gateway Gulf 2026, organised by the Bahrain Economic Development Board (Bahrain EDB) on November 1–2, with the company receiving support from Bahrain EDB in establishing its operations.
SITR has developed a platform designed to continuously monitor executed transactions against the rulings of financial institutions’ Shariah Supervisory Boards. The system aims to support internal Shariah audit teams by reviewing transactions and identifying potential compliance issues, including documentation gaps and discrepancies in transaction execution.
The platform connects to existing banking systems through read only integrations and can process contracts and supporting documents, including scanned files. According to the company, the system is designed to operate without interfering with transaction processing.
SITR said its platform was developed with reference to the Central Bank of Bahrain’s Shariah governance requirements and the standards of the Accounting and Auditing Organisation for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI). The company also stated that its approach is aligned with ISO/IEC 27001 information security practices.
The company has engaged with Shariah audit and compliance teams at Islamic financial institutions in Bahrain during the platform’s development. Its intended clients include Islamic banks, investment funds, and other Shariah compliant financial institutions.
Yousuf Tyabji, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of SITR, said the company aims to support the transition from periodic, sample based Shariah compliance reviews towards more continuous monitoring. He highlighted Bahrain’s established Islamic finance sector and the support received from Bahrain EDB in setting up the company.
Musab Abdullah, Executive Director of Business Development for Information and Communications Technology (ICT) at Bahrain EDB, said SITR’s decision to establish its headquarters in Bahrain reflected the Kingdom’s regulatory framework and technology sector. He noted the potential for technology applications to support Shariah compliance processes in Islamic finance.
SITR plans to serve financial institutions in Bahrain and other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries from its Manama headquarters. The company also intends to recruit Bahraini professionals as its operations expand.
SITR is registered with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and is completing the final stage of its commercial licensing process.
