Manama : Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs, announced that more than 400,000 electronic passports have been issued since their launch on March 12, 2023, by General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Interior Minister.
The initiative was launched in response to the royal directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and under the follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, as part of efforts to modernise government services and provide citizens with integrated, advanced services.
He explained that citizens whose passports have two years or less remaining before expiry can now apply for renewal and obtain an electronic passport, urging them to take advantage of the service and complete their transactions in advance.
The Undersecretary affirmed that the Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs continues to develop its services and streamline passport issuance and renewal procedures. Applications can be submitted through the National Portal of the Kingdom of Bahrain (bahrain.bh) or at service centres, offering flexible options that save citizens time and effort.
He noted that the express service centre at the department’s headquarters can process electronic passport applications within two hours or less of submission. A passport delivery service is also available both inside and outside Bahrain to facilitate receipt of passports.
Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman commended the efforts of the department’s personnel in expediting transactions and improving service quality. He also praised citizens’ growing uptake of electronic passport services, affirming the continued development of the service system to support digital transformation and enhance institutional efficiency.
