Washington, The United States has implemented a decision by President Donald Trump to double tariffs on imports from India, raising duties to as much as 50%, effective Wednesday.
The increase, which adds a new 25% levy linked to India’s purchase of Russian oil to an existing 25% tariff on a wide range of goods, marks a significant strain in bilateral trade relations.
The higher duties apply to products including garments, gems and jewellery, footwear, sporting goods, furniture and chemicals, placing them among the steepest tariff levels imposed by the United States, comparable to those applied on imports from Brazil and China.
