Manama : The Muslim Council of Elders, chaired by Dr. Ahmed Al Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al Azhar, issued a statement on the International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace, observed annually on April 24.
The statement highlighted that the world is in urgent need of promoting a culture of dialogue, strengthening multilateral action, and supporting diplomatic pathways to resolve conflicts through peaceful means, to safeguard regional and international security and stability.
The Council said that the escalating challenges facing the world, including armed conflicts, humanitarian crises, and growing polarisation, underscore that achieving peace requires sincere political will, wise diplomacy, and international cooperation. It added that such efforts should be based on mutual respect, justice, and the protection of human dignity.
The statement noted that shared religious and humanitarian values call for promoting the language of wisdom, prioritising the interests of peoples, and resorting to dialogue in addressing differences. It affirmed that peace is not a transient option, but a shared moral and humanitarian responsibility that requires concerted international and regional efforts to protect human lives and preserve national resources.
The Muslim Council of Elders called on the international community, including religious, intellectual, and cultural institutions, to support all initiatives aimed at promoting a culture of peace, strengthening dialogue, as a sound foundation for building a more just, understanding, and cooperative world. It reaffirmed that just and lasting peace begins with belief in the value of the human being, respect for people’s right to security and dignity. It added that diplomacy, dialogue, and multilateral cooperation as essential tools for shaping a future marked by stability and harmony.
