Coronavirus: Bahrain reports two deaths in 24 hours; death toll at 26

Bahrain has announced the second death from coronavirus in 24 hours, a 40-year-old male expatriate, a registered active case of coronavirus, taking the country’s total deaths to 26.

The patient was suffering from underlying and chronic health problems. The dead patient was in the intensive care unit (ICU) for treatment.

The country has been reporting more deaths in recent days.

The Ministry of Health expresses its heartfelt condolences to the individual’s family at this difficult time.

The patient, along with all other active COVID-19 cases, had been placed in isolation and received extensive 24-hour treatment from a specialised medical team.

The total cases in the country had reached 14,745 of which 9,468 have recovered making over 64 percent of the confirmed cases to recover from the virus. Currently, there are 5,269 active cases.

Also, there are 80 COVID-19 cases currently receiving treatment, of which 12 are in a critical condition.

So far the country has conducted 367,056 tests, which is among the highest when looking at the country’s population.

An increase in coronavirus cases among the Bahrainis was noticed by the MOH in recent days.

“The reasons for the increase in the number of cases among the citizens are due to family and social gatherings during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr,” said Dr. Waleed Khalifa Al Manea, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health in a press conference.
