Solar-powered benches with USB charging ports will be installed in various locations in the Southern Governorate, in a move supported by Bapco. The seats which are fitted with photovoltaic cells, harness solar power for LED and USB charging ports for smart devices will be provided in six locations, including public gardens, walkways and markets. Apple Inc has created a $200 million fund to invest in timber-producing forest properties that will be managed to help remove carbon from the atmosphere while also generating a profit, it said on Thursday. Apple last year set out a goal to neutralize its own carbon emissions and those of its suppliers by 2030. Top U.N., financial and vaccine officials on Thursday urged rich countries to donate excess COVID-19 vaccine doses to a program supplying lower income countries in a bid to end the pandemic and get the global economy back on track. At an event organised by the Gavi Vaccine Alliance to boost support for the COVAX vaccine-sharing initiative, the officials appealed for another $2 billion by June for the programme, which aims to buy up to 1.8 billion doses in 2021. SHARJAH: Sharjah private schools can resume face-to-face classes starting from next week, Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA) announced. Earlier, in February, schools had been directed to shift to 100 per cent distance learning until the end of the second semester. With the spring break coming to an end this week for most international curriculum schools, such schools can, starting April 11, resume face-to-face classes, SPEA confirmed on its social media.
