Riyadh : The Supreme Court of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced that Monday, May 18, marks the first day of Dhul-Hijjah 1447 AH. Standing at Arafa (waqfat Arafa) will take place on Tuesday, May 26, while Eid Al-Adha will begin on Wednesday, May 27. The court stated that its moonsighting committee convened earlier this evening to review reports on the sighting of the Dhul-Hijjah crescent moon, confirming that the new moon had been sighted by a number of witnesses.

Geneva : The World Health Organization (WHO) today declared an international public health emergency over the outbreak of the Ebola virus in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda. The organisation said the spread of the disease caused by the Bundibugyo strain does not meet the criteria to be classified as a pandemic, noting that the declaration aims to place neighbouring countries on maximum alert and mobilise support from the international community.

Kinshasa : The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), the continent’s top public health agency, confirmed a new Ebola outbreak in Ituri province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with 246 suspected cases and 65 deaths recorded. The agency stated that most of the deaths and suspected cases were recorded in the Mongwalu and Rwampara health zones, noting that four deaths were reported among laboratory-confirmed cases. Washington, : US President Donald Trump announced the killing of Abu Bilal Al Minuki, second-in-command of ISIS globally, during a joint operation conducted by US and Nigerian forces.
