Melbourne : Indonesian and Australian leaders said Wednesday they were close to signing a new bilateral defense treaty. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced the pact during the Indonesian leader’s first state visit to Australia. Ankara : A Turkish C-130 military cargo plane with at least 20 personnel on board crashed in Georgia on Tuesday after taking off from Azerbaijan. The number of casualties and the cause of the incident were not immediately clear. Initial video from the scene near the Azerbaijan border showed chunks of twisted metal strewn across a grassy knoll, with parts of the fuselage still ablaze and dark smoke rising into a clear sky.

New Delhi : A car explosion near the historic Red Fort in India’s capital on Monday killed eight people and injured at least 19 others, police in New Delhi said. The blast, which triggered a fire that damaged several vehicles parked nearby, took place near one of the gates of the Red Fort metro station, the fire services said. The cause is being investigated. Manama : The Kingdom of Bahrain condemned and denounced the bombing that took place in the centre of New Delhi, the capital of the Republic of India, which resulted in the deaths and injuries of dozens of innocent people. A statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs extended Bahrain’s condolences and sympathy to the government and people of the Republic of India, and wished a speedy recovery to those injured. Manama : His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Minister of the Prime Minister’s Court and Chairman of the High Committee of the Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC), today issued two edicts announcing appointments at the REHC. Under the first edict, Mohammed Ahmed Al Ne’ma was appointed as Director of the Jockeys’ Support Fund at the REHC. Manama : The Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) announced the implementation of 1,927 inspection campaigns and visits, from November 2-8, which resulted in the detention of 17 violating and irregular workers, while 52 violators were deported. The inspection campaigns and visits also resulted in monitoring several violations related to the provisions of several regulating laws, especially the LMRA and the Residency Laws in the Kingdom, noting that legal measures were taken regarding the observed violations. Washington : The United States Senate took the first step towards ending the government shutdown after a group of Democrats agreed to proceed without a guaranteed extension of health care subsidies. In a preliminary procedural vote, the Senate voted 60–40 to move towards passing compromise legislation to fund the government and to hold a later vote on extending the Affordable Care Act tax credits, which expire on January 1. Final approval could take several days if Democrats object and delay the process.
