Over a million Australians have downloaded the coronavirus contact tracing app within hours of it being released by the government. The COVIDSafe smartphone app uses a Bluetooth wireless signal to exchange a “digital handshake” with another user when they come within 1.5m. The app then logs this contact and encrypts it. Users will be notified if they have had more than 15 minutes of close contact with another user who tests positive. Over 579 trials have been done via video-conferences in Abu Dhabi, authorities said on Sunday. The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) said the e-system was put in place as part of efforts to ensure continuity while protecting employees and customers amid the Covid-19 situation. Judges of the commercial court held 165 e-hearings at the first instance court; 333 at the appellant court; and 81 at the summary matters court, according to ADJD. 17 police officers in Peru have died of Covid-19 while implementing a nationwide lockdown. On Friday, Interior Minister Carlos Morán, who had been criticised for failing to provide officers with masks and medical care, resigned. Over 1,000 police have been infected by the virus. The country has reported over 25,000 infections and 700 deaths, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University. The new interior minister said his department had granted $15 million to purchase protective equipment for police.
