Manama : As part of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce’s efforts to strengthen market oversight and ensure commercial establishments comply with the applicable laws and regulations, the ministry’s Inspection Directorate carried out a series of regular field inspections of commercial establishments across the Kingdom’s governorates to verify their compliance.
The inspection campaigns resulted in the detection of several violations at four food retail outlets, including failure to display product prices, discrepancies between shelf prices and prices charged at the checkout, and the display of expired products, in violation of Law (35) of 2012 on Consumer Protection and its Executive Regulations.
The ministry affirmed that the violations were addressed immediately, with the outlets required to rectify their status and the necessary legal procedures taken.
The Inspection Directorate detected price manipulation violations at a commercial establishment in the Southern Governorate, in addition to other violations that the establishment had previously been notified to rectify but failed to address. This necessitated the implementation of legal measures, including the administrative closure of the establishment.
The Ministry of Industry and Commerce affirmed that it will continue its intensive inspection campaigns across the Kingdom to protect consumers’ rights and ensure market stability, stressing that it will not hesitate to take all legal measures against any violations of the relevant laws and regulations.
The ministry also called on consumers to report any violations by email to the Inspection Directorate at Inspection@moic.gov.bh, through the Tawasul National Suggestions and Complaints System, or via WhatsApp on 17111225.
