Manama : General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior and Chairman of the National Anti-Drug Committee, attended a ceremony marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

The Minister emphasised the Kingdom of Bahrain’s commitment to international partnership, regional coordination and collective action to combat drugs, in line with the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah said combating drugs is a shared national responsibility that requires the combined efforts of security, educational, health, media and religious institutions to address evolving smuggling methods and protect society.

The Minister said Bahrain continues to strengthen efforts to combat illicit drug trafficking and psychotropic substances by enhancing security performance, developing work systems, strengthening coordination among the relevant authorities and expanding community partnership.
He noted that 2,006 drug cases were registered in 2025 and 475 during the first quarter of 2026, stressing that raising awareness of the dangers of drugs remains a key pillar in protecting future generations.

The ceremony included the screening of a documentary on national anti-drug efforts, recognition of distinguished officers, non-commissioned officers and supporting entities, and the presentation of the Stevie Award won by the “Ta’afi” (Recovery) programme, implemented by the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science to support people recovering from drug addiction.
The Minister also toured an exhibition featuring artworks by students who won the anti-drug awareness competition organised by the Ministry of Interior in cooperation with the Ministry of Education.
