Manama : Dr. Saad bin Saud Al Fahaid, President of the Arabian Gulf University (AGU), received Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al Shibli, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education for Higher Education in the Sultanate of Oman, and his accompanying delegation on the sidelines of their visit to attend the graduation ceremony of AGU’s 39th graduating class, held under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
The two sides discussed means to strengthen cooperation, particularly in the areas of academic support and student services provided to Omani students, in a manner that enhances their educational experience and contributes to achieving outcomes that align with the development needs of the two countries.
During the visit, the Omani delegation was briefed on the progress of Omani students studying at the university and commended AGU’s commitment to supporting its students and providing academic and administrative services across its colleges, including the College of Medicine and Health Sciences and the College of Education, Administrative and Technical Sciences.
Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al Shibli emphasised the Ministry of Education’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with AGU and expanding educational partnerships. He highlighted the importance of regular visits in assessing students’ conditions and enhancing the quality of services provided to them. He also congratulated the graduates and their families and commended the organisation of the graduation ceremony.
For his part, Dr. Saad bin Saud Al Fahaid said AGU places students at the centre of its priorities and continues to provide a comprehensive educational environment that enhances their academic and professional capabilities. He noted that the graduation of Omani students from the university since 1980 reflects the depth of Gulf relations and their extension into academic and intellectual domains.
The university president also reviewed the work of the Sultan Qaboos Academic Chair for Desert Farming Techniques and Soilless Agriculture, established through an initiative by the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said, and highlighted the importance of strengthening research cooperation in advanced agricultural technologies to support food security and sustainability goals in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
The Omani delegation included Fahd bin Saeed Al Qasabi, Director General of Student Missions in the Sultanate of Oman; Salim bin Saeed Al Shaqsi, Head of the Coordination Department at the Office of the Undersecretary for Higher Education; and Abdulaziz bin Saeed Al Wahibi, Academic and Financial Supervisor for Omani students in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
During the visit, the delegation reviewed the university’s academic programmes and toured the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, including the Medical Skills and Simulation Centre and the Anatomy Museum.
The two sides emphasised the importance of continuing coordination and cooperation to ensure the best educational outcomes and further strengthen the learning environment for Omani students.
