Doha : Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, said that the Iranian attacks targeting the Ras Laffan energy complex constitute a dangerous escalation and an unacceptable violation, and an attempt to drag the region into a wider conflict amid ongoing tensions between Iran, Israel and the United States of America, according to Qatar News Agency (QNA).
He said during a joint press conference with Hakan Fidan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkiye, that targeting Qatar’s energy facilities and infrastructure represents an act of sabotage reflecting an aggressive and irresponsible policy. He noted that the attacks targeted a vital sector that is a source of livelihood for the Qatari people and a key contributor to international humanitarian efforts, adding that no casualties were reported due to precautionary measures.
He said that Iranian claims that the attacks targeted foreign interests or bases are unfounded and unacceptable, warning of the repercussions on global energy supplies and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, and calling for an immediate halt to all forms of escalation.
The Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs reiterated that regional security is a collective responsibility requiring full adherence to the principles of good neighbourliness and respect for sovereignty, noting that Qatar views diplomacy as the primary means to resolve disputes while reserving its right to respond to the attacks in accordance with international law.
On his part, Hakan Fidan expressed Turkiye’s full solidarity with Qatar in the face of the attacks targeting civilian infrastructure, commending the outcome of the regional meeting in Riyadh, which stressed a unified position rejecting escalation, and calling on the international community to assume its responsibilities to prevent further instability in the region.
