Manama : Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Vice President of the General Sports Authority (GSA), inaugurated the first World Para Taekwondo Poomsae Championship 2024, held in Bahrain from November 26 to 29 with the participation of 127 athletes from 21 countries.
The opening ceremony, hosted at Isa bin Rashid Hall in Isa Sports City, was attended by Shaikh Mohamed bin Duaij Al Khalifa, President of the Bahrain Paralympic Committee; Shaikh Sultan bin Duaij Al Khalifa, President of the Bahrain Disabled Sports Federation (BDSF); and a number of officials and delegation leaders.
Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed commended the efforts of the Bahrain Paralympic Committee in organising the championship, highlighting the significant progress in Bahrain’s Paralympic sports sector. He emphasised the leadership’s commitment to fostering growth and strengthening Bahrain’s achievements in the global sports arena. He also commended the organising committee, as well as the Bahraini administrative, volunteer, and media teams, for their contributions to the success of the event.
Shaikh Mohamed bin Duaij expressed appreciation to Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed for attending the opening ceremony, underscoring his support for Bahrain’s Paralympic sports and its expansion in Bahrain. He acknowledged the General Sports Authority’s role in supporting the Bahrain Paralympic Committee and contributing to the success of its activities locally and internationally.
The event featured demonstrations of the sport, followed by a parade of all participating nations.
This championship marks a new milestone for Bahrain’s Paralympic sports and the discipline of Para Taekwondo Poomsae, as it serves as the first step in the sport’s inclusion in the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games.
