Manama : The Nasser bin Hamad Cycling Tour for Amateurs delivered excitement on its third day, featuring the third stage of the tour spanning 153 kilometres across the Kingdom.
The event is held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS).
The third stage was officially launched by Salman bin Isa bin Hindi Al Mannai, Governor of Muharraq Governorate, in the presence of Dr Abdulrahman Sadiq Askar, CEO of the General Sports Authority, and Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, President of the Bahrain Cycling Association.
Covering a distance of 155 kilometres, the third stage passed through several landmarks in the Kingdom.
Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad, along with Ahmed Al Qubaisi, Assistant Secretary-General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, and Ahmed Al Hajj, Director of the Nasser bin Hamad Cycling Tour, awarded the top finishers.
Victorious Team cyclist Mohammed Isa Al Ghais secured first place among Bahrainis, with teammate Mohammed Hassan Jawad taking second place. Bahrain Giant cyclist Mohammed Musallam finished in third place.
The UAE teams won the first three places in the open category for Bahrainis, Gulf nationals and foreigners residing in the Kingdom, with Ibrahim Al Ali from Team Esaad taking first, UAE cyclist Hamad Al Sabri from Dubai Police Team in second, and Bahraini Hussain Mohammed from Team Al Wathba placing third.
Mohammed Al Ghais from Team Victorious retained the yellow jersey for best time overall and the red jersey for most points.
His teammate, Mohammed Hassan, took the blue jersey for the under-23 category. Aqeel Thamer from Team Giant kept the green jersey for leading the over-40 category.
In the open category for Gulf nationals and foreign residents, Hamad Al Sabri from Dubai Police Team won both the orange jersey and the grey jersey for most points.
Bahraini Mahdi Hassan Jawad from Team Naseej claimed the purple jersey for the under-23 category, while Kevin Orlandi from Team Victorious kept the pink jersey for the over-40 category.
The tour’s final day on Saturday will feature an 80-kilometre race, a children’s race, a 40-kilometre women’s race, and a race for athletes with special needs.
