London ; The UK Prime Minister’s office unveiled the new ministerial lineup under Labour Party leader Keir Starmer, who assumed office as Prime Minister following Rishi Sunak.
Angela Rayner has been appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities. Rachel Reeves has been assigned the role of Chancellor of the Exchequer, becoming the first woman to hold this position in the country’s history.
John Healey has been appointed Secretary of State for Defence, while David Lammy takes over as Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs. Secretary of State for the Home Department has been entrusted to Yvette Cooper.
Starmer continues to meet with Labour Party leaders to finalize the remaining members of the new government, after the party’s landslide victory in yesterday’s elections, ending 14 years of Conservative rule marked by significant events such as Brexit, the COVID-19 pandemic, political scandals, and economic and social crises.
