Washington : Billionaire Elon Musk, who is heading U.S. President Donald Trump’s drive to shrink the federal government, said work is underway to shut down the U.S. foreign aid agency USAID.
Musk spoke on X, the social media platform he owns, about the work of the Department of Government Efficiency, stating that they are working to shut down the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
He described the agency as beyond repair, adding that President Trump agrees it should be shut down.
USAID is the world’s largest single donor. In fiscal year 2023, the U.S. disbursed $72 billion in assistance covering various areas, including women’s health in conflict zones, access to clean water, energy security, and anti-corruption efforts.
