Manama : Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister, met with Theresa May, Former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Chair of the Global Commission on Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking.
Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah conveyed the greetings of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
He emphasised Bahrain’s achievements in the field of protecting human rights and combating human trafficking, reflecting the Kingdom’s commitment to justice and equality under the comprehensive development process led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the follow-up of HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. He noted that Bahrain’s approach as an international partner addresses humanitarian challenges on a global scale.
Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah highlighted Bahrain’s longstanding commitment to integrating core human rights principles into its legislation, policies, and national plans. This commitment serves as the foundation of the Kingdom’s anti-trafficking strategy, which emphasises prevention, protection, judicial integrity, partnerships, and governance, in alignment with international best practices.
The Deputy Prime Minister congratulated May on the establishment of the commission, commending its focus on human rights and combating trafficking. He affirmed Bahrain’s commitment to strengthening international collaboration and partnerships to address this global issue and wished the commission success in its mission.
May expressed her appreciation for Bahrain’s leadership in protecting human rights and combating trafficking. She said: “Bahrain has become a beacon for other states in the Gulf region on how to tackle modern slavery and human trafficking”, and wished the Kingdom continued progress and prosperity.
