Istanbul : A bomb threat that forced an emergency landing of a Vistara Airlines flight in the eastern Turkish city of Erzurum was confirmed to be false, the local governor announced.
Turkish officials reported that a note reading “bomb on board” was found in the aircraft’s lavatory, prompting bomb disposal teams to evacuate 234 passengers and 13 crew members for inspection.
A Vistara spokesperson said flight UK27, travelling from Mumbai to Frankfurt, was diverted due to a security concern, landing in Erzurum at 4:30pm local time.
Erzurum governor Mustafa Ciftci confirmed that the bomb threat was unfounded following inspections, which concluded at 11:30pm local time. Restrictions on flights at the airport were lifted.
Vistara stated that all passengers, crew, and the aircraft were cleared by security, and an alternate plane was being sent to transport passengers to Frankfurt.
