Coronavirus: Bahrain registers 24th death

Bahrain has announced the death of a 34-year-old male expatriate, a registered active case of coronavirus suffering from underlying and chronic health problems, taking the country’s total deaths to 24.

The Ministry of Health expresses its heartfelt condolences to the individual’s family at this difficult time.

The patient, along with all other active COVID-19 cases, had been placed in isolation and received extensive 24-hour treatment from a specialised medical team.

Bahrain has reported 159 new cases of coronavirus, its the second-highest daily cases, among 86 expatriate workers and 62 contacts of active cases and 11 are travel-related, taking today’s cases to 548.

Meanwhile, 36 additional recoveries from COVID-19 were reported, bringing today’s recoveries to 471.

The newly registered cases bring the total cases to 14,383 of which 9,056 have recovered making over 62 percent of the confirmed cases to recover from the virus. Currently, there are 5,303 active cases.

Also, there are 82 COVID-19 cases currently receiving treatment, of which 14 are in a critical condition.

So far the country has conducted 361,376 tests, which is among the highest when looking at the country’s population.

An increase in coronavirus cases among the Bahrainis was noticed by the MOH in recent days.

“The reasons for the increase in the number of cases among the citizens are due to family and social gatherings during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr,” said Dr. Waleed Khalifa Al Manea, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health in a press conference.
