New Delhi : Multiple landslides triggered by torrential rains in southern India have killed 70 people, and many others are feared trapped under the debris, officials said Tuesday, with rescue operations being hampered by bad weather. The landslides hit hilly villages in Kerala state’s Wayanad district early Tuesday and destroyed many houses and a bridge, but authorities have yet to determine the full scope of the disaster. Beijing : Torrential rains have left at least seven people dead and three others missing in southeastern China, raising the death toll from the tropical storm to 22. All the deaths have been in Hunan province. Heavy rains have been falling on eastern Hunan for days as Tropical Storm Gaemi moved inland after making landfall at typhoon strength in neighboring Fujian province on the Chinese coast. Swimmer Amani Al Obaidli will compete in the 100m backstroke qualification at 11 am (12:00 BST) at the Paris La Défense Arena. Tunis : The Candidates for the Tunisian presidential election scheduled for October 6, 2024, will be able to submit their candidacy documents starting Monday, July 29. The submission period will extend until August 6, according to a press release issued by the Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE). Tunisian President Kais Saied has announced his candidacy for a second term, and dozens of politicians and public figures have also announced their intention to run in the presidential race. Caracas : Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his opposition rival Edmundo Gonzalez were each claiming victory in a presidential election on Monday morning, after a vote marked by accusations of underhand tactics and isolated incidents of violence. The country’s electoral authority said just after midnight on Monday that Maduro had won a third term with 51% of the vote. In comparison, the opposition candidate Gonzalez won 44% of the vote. The opposition had earlier said it had “reasons to celebrate” and asked supporters to continue monitoring vote counts.

Abu Dhabi :  President Gabriel Boric Font of Chile arrived in Abu Dhabi today on an official visit to the UAE. The Chilean President arrived at the Presidential Airport in Abu Dhabi and was received by Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Emirati Minister of State for International Cooperation and Head of the Honorary Mission accompanying the President; Mohammed Saeed Al Neyadi, UAE Ambassador to Chile; and several officials.

Manama :   Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, visited the Indonesian Embassy in Bahrain to pay his condolences on the demise of the Ninth Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr. Hamzah Haz. The Foreign Minister conveyed the condolences of the leadership, government and people of the Kingdom to the government of Indonesia and its people to Ardi Hermawan, Indonesian Ambassador to Bahrain. The minister recalled the contributions of Dr. Haz in serving his country.
