Tamkeen extends employment and wage increment support 89 Bahrain employees at Ibn Al Nafees Hospital
Manama : The Labour Fund “Tamkeen” announced its support for Ibn Al Nafees Hospital through wage increment for 55 employees in addition to the employment of 34 Bahrainis across various fields and specializations within ongoing efforts to enhance employment and career development opportunities for Bahraini talent in the private sector. Zurich : The Swiss government said on Friday Martin Pfister will be the country’s new defence minister when Viola Amherd steps down at the end of the month. Separately, the government said it had approved a memorandum of understanding to step up defence cooperation with Singapore which would allow the two to deepen collaboration on research, development, innovation and defence procurement.
Riyadh : Bahrain secured first place in the Prince Sultan bin Salman Quran Award for Children with Disabilities, with Ibrahim Othman Al Yafie winning the top prize for the second consecutive year. The 29th edition of the award was held in Riyadh under the patronage of Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Chairman of the Board of Disabled Children’s Association. This year, 141 participants competed, with 102 reaching the finals and 17 receiving top awards.

Dubai :: DP World, a logistics and supply chain solutions company based in Dubai, recorded a 9.7% revenue growth in 2024, reaching $20 billion, while adjusted EBITDA rose by 6.7% to $5.5 billion. Cairo : Eight people were killed and 12 others injured in a collision between a train and a passenger vehicle in Ismailia governorate, east of Cairo. Egypt’s Ministry of Health stated that 13 ambulances were dispatched to transport the injured to hospital. The Railway Authority indicated that the accident occurred due to the vehicle crossing from an unauthorised location, leading to casualties. Kamel El Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, visited the site to follow up on the response measures.
Geneva :: The European Region recorded the highest number of measles cases since 1997, with approximately 127,350 cases reported in 2024—more than double the number recorded in 2023—according to a joint report by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). Regina De Dominicis, UNICEF Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia, said that measles cases had sharply increased across Europe and Central Asia over the past two years, reflecting gaps in immunisation coverage.
