Cairo : Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the President of Customs, led Bahrain’s delegation at the 59th regional meeting for the North Africa, Near and Middle East region at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo.
The meeting reviewed several topics on the agenda related to customs affairs in the region and the relationship with the World Customs Organisation (WCO).
The WCO Secretary-General presented a report on the organisation’s modernisation plan, discussing future strategies and governance. The Regional Office for Capacity Building and the Regional Office (ROCB) for Information Exchange also reviewed achievements from the past year.
The President of Customs also participated in the 44th meeting of the General Directors of Customs in Arab countries, discussing topics related to the Greater Arab Free Trade Area, obstacles to the Arab Customs Union, and facilitating trade between Arab countries.
The meeting also focused on completing Arab customs agreements, such as the Arab Customs Cooperation Agreement and the Agreement to Regulate Transit Transport between Member States.
