The Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation’s team succeeded in obtaining the consent of the families of three brain-dead individuals at Prince Metaab bin AbdelAziz Hospital in Aljouf, King Khalid Hospital in Najran, and the Security Forces Hospital in Makkah Al Mukarramah to donate their organs to patients with end stage organ failure. This led to saving the lives of 11 Saudi men and women and putting an end to their suffering from illness.
The procedures included two heart transplant surgeries that saved the lives of two women aged 46 and 35. Three liver transplant surgeries were performed for other citizens aged 63, 58, and 25, SPA reported.
A 56 year old woman’s life was saved through a lung transplant to treat her end-stage pulmonary failure. The suffering of four other citizens aged 66, 36, 33, and 20, who were dealing with end-stage renal failure and undergoing dialysis, was also ended through kidney transplant surgeries. Moreover, a 27 year old woman received a pancreas transplant.
Dr. Talal Al Goufi, the General Director of the Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation, emphasized that the organ removal and transplant procedures were carried out with exceptional speed and adherence to medical ethics, ensuring fair distribution based on medical priorities.
He highlighted that the achieved success was a result of collaborative efforts among all relevant parties working with the center’s team to utilize these cases and save the lives of patients. He expressed his gratitude to the families of the deceased who generously donated their organs to these patients.
