Berlin : German automaker Volkswagen plans to cut around 100,000 jobs by the end of the decade as part of a major restructuring programme.
The company said management and labour unions agreed to eliminate an additional 50,000 positions, on top of 50,000 previously agreed cuts, representing around 15% of the group’s global workforce.
Volkswagen cited economic pressures including US tariffs, Chinese competition and slowing growth in electric vehicle demand.
The restructuring plan also includes major investment in research and development and measures to streamline the group’s operations.
