Beijing : One person was killed, and 11 others went missing after a mudslide caused by heavy rain in eastern China.
Chinese authorities said in a statement that one body had been recovered, while two other people were rescued alive.
The authorities said the mudslide also damaged 12 homes following days of heavy rain caused by Tropical Storm Saudel. They added that the mudslide struck part of a village in Suichuan County in Jiangxi Province in the early hours of the morning, prompting rescue workers to rush to the site and move residents to a safer location to prevent further risks.
Typhoon Saudel made landfall twice in Zhejiang Province on August 28 and made a third landfall as a tropical storm in Fujian Province on Thursday. Both provinces border Jiangxi Province.
In Fujian Province, local authorities said on Friday that several residents remained missing after days of heavy rain. They said more than 100 homes had collapsed in Huating town in Putian city.
