Te Anau : A magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck near the town of Te Anau on New Zealand’s South Island, prompting authorities to issue a temporary tsunami warning before lifting it after no threat was detected, local authorities said.
The earthquake struck about 40 kilometres north of Te Anau, with authorities initially estimating its magnitude at 6.3 before revising it to 5.9.
No casualties or damage have been reported, while more than 18,000 people reported feeling the earthquake.
