New York : Saudi Arabia stressed the importance of maritime security and ensuring energy flows during a special meeting of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) on safeguarding energy and supply flows.
Abdulaziz Alwasil, Permanent Representative of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, reaffirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to global market stability, sustainable development, and reliable energy supplies in support of the global economy.
Alwasil highlighted the importance of protecting maritime routes and freedom of navigation, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz and Bab Al-Mandab, describing them as essential to international supply chains.
He condemned attacks targeting energy infrastructure and civilian facilities that threaten maritime navigation.
Alwasil also highlighted draft Resolution 2817 submitted by the Kingdom of Bahrain to protect navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, noting the broad support it has received as an important step towards regional stability.
He further stressed the importance of ensuring reliable and affordable energy access, particularly for developing countries, and called for enhanced international cooperation that supports innovation while taking into account national circumstances and development priorities.
