London : Andy Burnham assumed office as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom today, succeeding Sir Keir Starmer, who formally submitted his resignation to King Charles. Burnham becomes the country’s seventh prime minister in a decade.
The 56-year-old takes office amid economic and political challenges and has pledged to reorient the government’s agenda towards improving living standards and addressing cost-of-living pressures.
Following his election as leader of the Labour Party on Friday, Burnham described his election as the most significant political shift in four decades and pledged to pursue stable and responsible policies aimed at raising living standards.
Labour Party Deputy Leader Lucy Powell said Burnham intends to refocus the government’s priorities on addressing the cost-of-living crisis.
