Manama : As part of the National Afforestation Campaign (Forever Green), implemented under the National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD), Rawan bint Najeeb Tawfiqi, Minister of Youth Affairs, launched the NIAD’s afforestation project at the Northern Sehla Youth Enabling Centre with support from Takaful International Company. The project is part of the ongoing efforts to enhance vegetation cover at youth and community centres across the Kingdom.
Shaikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa, Secretary General of NIAD; Abdulaziz Al Othman, Deputy CEO of Takaful International Company; and MP Hassan Ibrahim Hassan, Member of the Council of Representatives, were present.
The event, implemented under the centre’s afforestation initiative, included the planting of 135 trees of the Golden Ficus and Acacia Glauca varieties, to improve the centre’s environment and create sustainable green spaces that provide a healthy and safe setting for a range of youth activities.
Minister Tawfiqi said the initiative receives significant attention from the Ministry of Youth Affairs as one of the leading national initiatives that aligns with the Ministry’s vision to promote environmental awareness among Bahraini youth and enable their active participation in initiatives that have a lasting impact.
She commended the constructive cooperation between the Ministry of Youth Affairs, NIAD and Takaful International Company for its role in supporting national efforts to spread the culture of afforestation and strengthen concepts of environmental sustainability.
The Minister noted that the afforestation project at the Northern Sehla Youth Enabling Centre represents a practical realisation of the Ministry’s vision to empower youth to contribute directly to environmental sustainability goals, saying that involving youth in such projects strengthens their sense of belonging and community responsibility and encourages them to be active partners in building a greener and more sustainable future for the Kingdom.
Shaikha Maram bint Isa said the project reflects the initiative’s commitment to environmental sustainability. She added that such initiatives provide youth with a real opportunity to take part in afforestation efforts and environmental protection, enhancing their sense of responsibility and connection to the community.
For his part, Al Othman said the company is proud to support the project, noting that the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to principles of environmental, social and governance responsibility, and aims to raise environmental awareness among youth, instil a culture of environmental protection, and contribute to providing a safe, healthy and encouraging environment for youth activities.
The project is part of a community partnership between the public and private sectors to support sustainable afforestation initiatives and encourage youth participation in national efforts to build a greener and more sustainable future for the Kingdom.
